Meet Dr. Kathy

Dr. Kathy L. McMillan-Bennon is an author, educator, literacy expert, leadership consultant, and entrepreneur committed to helping children find their voices and helping educators and emerging leaders step confidently into their purpose. Her distinguished career in education includes experience in early childhood education and elementary guidance, as well as leadership roles as an assistant principal, district-level director, and adjunct college professor. Her expertise also encompasses literacy development, educator preparation, mentorship, leadership coaching, and licensure exam support.

Throughout her career, Dr. McMillan-Bennon has created transformative learning experiences that strengthen confidence, develop professional capacity, and open doors to new possibilities. Whether working with children, aspiring educators, established professionals, or emerging leaders, she remains guided by one central belief: every person deserves to be seen, heard, supported, and empowered to succeed.

She is the author of Hendrix Finds His Voice, a heartfelt children’s book inspired by the power of patience, perseverance, and language development, and Beacons, Mirrors, and Open Doors, which explores how mentorship helps Black women lead, thrive, and transform education. Through her writing, coaching, consulting, and educator-development work, Dr. McMillan-Bennon continues to cultivate spaces where voices are nurtured, stories are honored, and lasting impact is created.

Extending her commitment to service and possibility beyond the classroom, Dr. McMillan-Bennon is also the founder and CEO of Peacock Elite Travels™, a boutique travel-planning company that curates meaningful and memorable travel experiences. She is also the founder and CEO of Elevated Learning by Dr. Kathy, a private K–12 tutoring and academic-support practice providing personalized instruction in reading, mathematics, and writing. Across education, publishing, leadership, and entrepreneurship, she creates opportunities that help individuals discover their voices, expand their possibilities, and move confidently toward their goals.
